The American and French car concerns have announced about the creation of an alliance in which the companies will collaborate on the development of the new models. It is assumed that GM and PSA Peugeot Citroen will produce cars on the common platforms. This is about the compact cars as well as models of the golf – class, the compact vans and the crossovers. We can expect that the future Opel Astra and Citroen C4 will be “family members”.
Within the framework the integration of GM acquires a 7 – percent stake in the French concern shares, in this way it becomes the second largest shareholder after the Peugeot family. It is noted that the direct impact on the operational management of the PSA Peugeot Citroen, the Americans do not have. In the market their cars will continue to compete.
In addition to the cooperation in the development of the new products the companies will work together for the purchase of the automotive components and materials. According to the GM, the cooperation between the two companies will have a synergistic effect, and the overall cost savings will be $ 2 billion.
