Long time, Mitsubishi hasn’t made us happy with its major innovations. But the range of the company is already up to date. For example, the most popular “Mits”, the large crossover Outlander is available since 2005. Seven years for the modern automobile industry, especially the Japanese, it’s too much. And at the Geneva Auto Show, we were able to see the new Outlander. Serial!
Last year it was clear that Mitsubishi is preparing to show the new Outlander – at the end of 2011 at the Tokyo Auto Show was introduced a concept with a complex and confusing name PX – MiEV II. The car was interesting not only for its design, but also it was an unusual hybrid – a two – liter gasoline engine with 94 hp worked together with two motors, each of which had 80 hp. The batteries in the PX – MiEV II can be recharged from an ordinary wall outlet, and one electric car drove 50 km.
In the future Outlander will get a power plant. The Japanese want to make just three “green” version of Outlander: a pure electric car, the car with the “parallel” hybrid, and a serial hybrid.
The crossover will be powered by a standard internal combustion engines. The base petrol engine is 2.0 – liter, which will be installed only on the cars with front – wheel drive. A four – wheel drive car will be with a 2.4 – liter engine.
The new Outlander turned out … smaller than its predecessor by 1 centimeter. The model didn’t change the width and height. The cabin is spacious, as there are three rows of seats!
The salon has turned out pretty easy, though without any frills. The center has a large touch screen, which displays the data navigation using a soft plastic, and the steering wheel is adjustable in both directions, as it is now assumed. The second row seat is adjustable in length in a very large range, which allows to significantly increase the volume of the luggage. And the third row of seats is formed very easily, this yields flat ground.
The new Outlander should be safe enough by today’s standards a car. The Japanese themselves are firmly convinced that they can earn a crash test the maximum five stars. But safety will not only to contribute to air bags and Electronic Stability System, and also to other electronic aids. So, Outlander will get a system for monitoring the car in front, which can itself inhibit, if necessary, a system for monitoring the movement of the bands, new xenon headlights Super – HiD «Wide Vision», which is almost 1.4 times more powerful than the usual one.
